Deb of Surviving NJ is our Supahstar this week! She’s been shamelessly promoting Supahstar Saturday (and GeekySpeaky too!) since I started this, and she’s a great blogger who is currently blogging on several different domains. She’s not just surviving in New Jersey, she’s thriving!
Why do you blog? I’ve always loved to express myself through writing. I started writing when I was a teenager, and always felt more free to be more expressive than with my spoken words. Over the years, the love of writing translated into books,...

When you think of Las Vegas, I’m sure that casinos and floor shows are the first thing that come to mind. Most of us probably think of Las Vegas as a tourist town, a town that makes it’s money with people coming to visit each year. But when you think about it, Las Vegas is a geek’s mecca in the making. All of those casinos? They’ve got slot machines to be services, security systems to be monitored and installed, and those floor shows require people to run soundboards and do the lighting. Many of the huge resorts require their...

This weekend, I’m finally helping my mother with her new computer. Her new Dell came with Vista, and it will be my first experience with it, and obviously, hers as well. A true case of the blind leading the blind. I’ve heard good things from friends who have been able to play with Vista, so I have high hopes that there won’t be a steep learning curve.
If your workplace is switching to Vista, or you’re more than a part time user who mainly visits eBay, you’ll probably want a bit more training on this new operating system. ...

Big huge thanks to Owen who created this fabulous clicky header for me. Not only did he create it, but he taught me how to edit and tweak it on my own, so that I could add sites to it and put it on the pages of my site as needed. I think, and I hope, that having the links at the top of the page through out the Geeky Speaky blog will increase traffic to other areas of the site, like the message boards and the links directory.

I’ve always wanted to move out of Florida and to a state with a cooler climate…one where you get to experience all four seasons…but I’d have to go someplace where I can be with my own kind. What’s my own kind? Geeks of course. What better than Washington state, where geeks rule with an iron fist? Home of Microsoft and all sorts of other tech companies, it’s a great place for a geek to grow up, live, work, and play. Of course, I’m no Bill Gates, so affordable housing is a must. I’m also not a city dweller...

I’m really excited about a new Yahoo mail development. They announced this morning that they’ll be opening their web mail platform up to external developers…which means fun plugins, utilities, applications, and tools for us! In addition, Yahoo mail users will now receive unlimited storage starting in May.
To get people started, Yahoo is paying a $10 commission for each Yahoo mail plus account created from the referral of an APPROVED developer. I hope that free users will get to see and use some of the tools created, and I hope they they’re...

I’m all about using credit wisely. I used it the wrong way for so many years, and now I only use it correctly – go me! One of the things my husband and I have done is transfered balances to 0% interest cards. When the 0% promo rate is over, we move again. We saw a lot of money in APR and fees doing that. I came across a new site that helps you find other ways to save money on your credit cards: Savings Agent – Apply for a credit card that can save you money
I’m sure you probably get offers in the mail weekly – we do! How...

I see a lawsuit in Circuit City’s future.
The company is laying off over 3,000 workers that the store considers to be “higher”, or “better” paid, and replacing them with people who will do the job for less money. The employees being targeted are receiving a severance package, and will get the chance to reapply for their former jobs, but for less pay.
The “high pay” rate being targeted? One person being laid off was a sales floor staff member earning a whopping $7.75 per hour. Meanwhile, Philip J. Schoonover, the...
