back it up

Anyone who has ever lost data stored on a hard drive has probably wondered, “Why didn’t I back up those files?” Hindsight being 20/20 and all that, backing up important files is something we don’t tend to think of until it’s too late. It’s like being in a car accident and clicking your seatbelt after the point of impact. Or checking your parachute after you’ve leapt out of a plane. Too little, too late.

I’ve resolved to backup more, in the event of a problem. I can’t imagine how upset I’d be to loose years of photos of my kids and family, but that’s exactly what would happen if my hard drive crashed tomorrow. I know one of the reasons I don’t backup my files often is that it’s a big pain in the patoot. It takes time, it means me organizing files on a CD, and then copying everything over and waiting. Enter BackUp Platinum, the answer to a girl geek’s prayers. The software comes with a flexible scheduler to provide automatic backups – that’s exactly what I need! The Wizard function allows you to copy your data to any type of storage media, be it CD or a USB drive, a LAN, or an FTP. You tell it when, where, and how to backup, and the software does the rest for you, even automatically splitting large back ups.

At $67, it’s a bit too rich for my blood right now, but worth a look if you want to protect all of your important data.

Luckily because I backed up one of my templates, I was able to restore something after I completely messed it up yesterday….talk about a heart stopping moment! This week I have to back up a bunch of stuff.
