statetris

I just wasted 30 minutes of my life on playing Tetris with the United States. I was a huge Tetris geek back in the early 1990’s. I had a Gameboy, and at my part time job during slow periods (which account for 6 hours of my 8 hour shift) I’d play Tetris. I got as high as level 20 or 21, which requires some really fast and fancy finger work! This version, called Stateris requires a little geography knowledge, so you can pass it off as “fun” to your kids, while knowing that it is really “educational”. HA! Link via BusyMom.

pointer game

Here’s a great way to spend an hour on a lazy Sunday – the Pointer game! Yes, it’s very simplistic, but you will be challenged by each new level. I’m up to the 5th now, and while the game doesn’t score you, you’ll find yourself getting competitive, and wanting to beat each new level offered. Some levels are easy to figure out at a glance, and some require a bit of planning, but all are fun!

online poker
icon1 Posted by admin in Game Geeks on 06 6th, 2007 | Comments Off
Why invite the boys over for a poker night, and stink up your house with cigars, and have them drink all of your bear? Why indeed, when you can play poker online, for real money? I consider myself to be a relatively “lucky” person as far as winning prizes and cash (I’m the type that puts $1 into the slots and wins $100), so I’m excited to tell you about how the big backgammon site, BackgammonMasters.com has added poker (play for real money!) to it’s lineup of great games. Right now, for a limited time, you can play without...

latin american expansion
icon1 Posted by admin in Game Geeks on 05 16th, 2007 | Comments Off
In this day and age of outsourcing and expansion, most companies seem to be focused on tapping certain specific markets. For us, it’s Asia – we do a lot of business there and there’s even talk if of outsourcing some work to employees in India. (Don’t get me started on that particular topic.) For BackgammonMasters.com, the place to be is Latin America. BackgammonMasters is the online backgammon site that features a talking tiger (named Jean Claude) as its online spokesperson. And while they’re expanding worldwide, they’re...

i’m stuck in gta san andreas

I got Grand Theft Auto (the trilogy) for Christmas, and I love the game. Right after the holidays, we had visiting friends who had a 15 year old, and I let him place the game to show me some tips and tricks and cheats. But alas, he had to return home, and I’m stuck. I’m at the point in the game where you ride through alleys chasing the guy on the motorcycle, shooting at home. I’ve tried it 100 different times, and I can’t keep up with him. It’s so flippin’ frustrating! I need to find a teenager around here to help...

game design major?

I think it’s really neat how schools have embraced technology as a career option, and are letting students avoid a more traditional education, and instead letting students take coursework that can be truly applied in the workplace. Sure, you need to take Composition I to learn how to write a memo to your employees, but trust me – I am never going to use all of that Algebra I had to take! One such school making a big move towards tech coursework is Collins College – some of the classes they’re currently offering are animation, game...

geeky stress relief?

I don’t know if this is true or not, but this game says that Air Force pilots are forced to be able to make it 2 minutes playing. I lasted all of 4.37 seconds, and that was on my 5th try! Good thing I’m driving an SUV, and not flying a jet. Anyone beat my time?

hallway wars
icon1 Posted by admin in Game Geeks on 04 2nd, 2007 | 3 Comments
What were you in high school? A jock? A cheerleader? A geek, or a stoner? Even if you weren’t in a clique, you can live out your high school years all over again in a new game called Hallway Wars. Anyone who went to high school will remember that the hallways were the places where people were made or broken. Friends were made, boyfriends were stolen, and reputations ruined – all in the span of 5 minutes in a hallway between class. You can bring back those good times (or not so good times) when you play Hallway Wars online. Join the geeks,...

free psp wi-fi

If you needed another reason to add a PSP to your shopping list, how about free wi-fi? Sony is giving users the ability to surf the net and play games online at over 7,000 T-Mobile hotspots – sorry, US only. Where are the hotspots? Starbucks, Borders, and tons of airports. You’ll get free wi-fi access for 6 months with your latest PSP upgrade, and then the chance to subscribe at a discounted rate, once your 6 months are up.

backgammon tiger
icon1 Posted by admin in Business, Game Geeks on 03 26th, 2007 | Comments Off
I love playing the game of Backgammon, and thanks to the internet, I can play online with friends anywhere, and at any time. Even if you’re not a fan of backgammon, you’ll get a kick out of this video featuring the #1 player at BackgammonMasters, who just happens to be an animated tiger named Jean-Claude. And yes, he speaks with a French accent! Yes, a French tiger who gets hassled by his lover to bring home groceries may seem like an unlikely spokesperson for the game of backgammon, but hey – it’s the internet, and anything goes! http://www.BackgammonMasters.com...
