Many soon-to-be wed couples are opting out of the traditional hometown nuptial festivals in favor of combining their wedding and honeymoon in a destination wedding or what’s also known as a ‘weddingmoon’.

According to one recent bride magazine survey, approximately 40 percent of couples choose a central location such as a Michigan wedding in beautiful, unique gardens so that their families from all over the country can meet in the middle and share their personal and wonderful celebration of unity.

Many of the couple’s destination weddings have themes and it is typically dictated by the destination.  Some couples decide to exchange vows on a cruise ship through Alaska; some couples choose a destination wedding near the beautiful Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Italy while other couples choose a centuries old castle for a one-of-a-kind, memorable wedding of their dreams.

Castle weddings are becoming very popular because they offer such a diverse array of options for the bride and groom.  Many castles have different rooms, each representing a different theme or hobby which could be incorporated into the wedding.  A couple could marry in the library or in the trophy room if they are great outdoors people.  Most castles have great rooms or ballrooms where parties took place and would make a perfect place for a wedding. Then they usually have large dining areas which would come in handy for the reception afterwards.  In addition, many castles are surrounded by various types of well-kept gardens such as a rose garden or a lily garden which makes a perfect backdrop for a sunset wedding.

Couples have gotten married in the most unusual places, which are not exactly destination weddings, but they did not take place in the traditional church, along the beach or in someone’s backyard.  People have gotten married while scuba diving, hot air ballooning, bungee jumping, on horseback and numerous other nontraditional style matrimonial ceremonies.

When choosing a destination wedding, choose a place everyone will enjoy. However it is your wedding, therefore it should make you happy.
