When we decided to build our current home, we spent a lot of extra money on getting our sound system installed. We had in ceiling surround sound speakers put in in, and then added a second zone of speakers on the lanai. Once we closed on our house, the company sent an installer our, and let me tell you – totally worth it. Don’t ever try to put up your wall mount TV on your own, or hook up surround sound and a receiver unless you want a lot of headaches. Can you imagine what would happen if you didn’t securely mount your pricy new flat panel TV, and it crashed to the floor? Eek!
I’ve since learned that we could have used our own company for the install, and we probably would have saved some money if we shopped around. One such company providing installations of flat panel TV’s and surround sound nationally is called HD Installers. Their website says they offer services in every major city in America, and they offer award winning Plasma Television Installation and LCD TV Installation service. Not only can you get the hookup for your install on their site, but you can get an education as well. Their site is an excellent resource for installing big screens or plasma televisions because they offer articles on what cables you’ll need, what size of TV to purchase for your home, and common installation configurations. (I could have used that when our system stopped working on the third day after install – it was user error, but we had a heck of a time trying to figure out what we did wrong.)
One thing I didn’t even think about – is it safe to mount a flat screen television over a fireplace? You see it being done all of the time in model homes and on TV, but the site offers some tips on how to do it correctly, and avoid sending extra heat towards your television.
