I’m frequently asked by people – friends, family, strangers on the street – for computer help. Cause sitting her surfing the internet on my laptop all day makes me a genius – right? There are certain things I can do online. I know my way around certain software products. I can build you a simple website. I can install a blog, and find you a hosting company. You want to know how to make money online? I can hook you up.
There are plenty of things I don’t know. I’ll still try to help you, but often, I can’t. This open letter to anyone asking me for computer help really hit home with me, especially #9!

Been there, done that. I’m a network admin, I dealt with this crap for years, especially when going through school. Back then it was way cheaper to build a computer then buy one, I got roped into building a few. Little did I know, I would be tech support too. Now, I suggest you go buy a dell, they have pretty OK tech support.
Most people have learned that if I fix your computer, thank me, make me dinner and we are even. I refuse to take money from friends or family for fixing their computers. As stated in the article, I’ll prob need their help at some point in the future, so consider it a trade. If the person is a friend of a friend, or someone that works with a family member, I’m charging you, sorry. I don’t have time to do favors for people I don’t know for no good reason.
Like the article points out, I use Google. One of the most important things I learned it school was from a professor who told us, “I can’t teach you everything, I can teach you the best way to find a solution.” This still holds true.
LOL – that list was great!
