Pawn shops are no longer only in the real-world brick-and-mortar locations but they have moved to the online Internet superhighway mostly dealing with gold and silver jewelry, unique or antique pieces of jewelry. Unless someone is willing to pay the high cost of shipping a large product or item, most items are no larger than a picture frame, and of course an online pawn shop would have antique picture frames. There are smaller electronics available through an online pawn shop such as MP3 players, cell phones, portable CD or DVD players and cameras.
Online pawn shops work the same as regular pawnshops only with smaller items. A regular pawn shop will assess a person’s valuables and then offer them a fair market price for that item. The person can then either accept the money in exchange for their valuable and that would be the end of it; or a pawn shops could offer slightly less money for the valuable and hold the valuable in exchange for the money as collateral on a loan of money. This way the person retrieves their valuable at the end of a certain agreed-upon amount of time. For example, pawn shops often lend money on such items as guitars, computers, antique toys, unique jewelry, cameras or other electronics that have a high significant value.
For pawn shops, online assessments of the valuables which is usually jewelry, is done a little differently. Usually an online pawn shop will ask for all of the person’s information through a protected online webpage and then send them a secure envelope in order to send their valuables to the pawn shops online assessment center or real-world brick-and-mortar pawn shop location. Once the jewelry has been assessed for its value, an offer is made to the person who owns the valuables either through the Internet or via telephone. It is then up to this individual to decide if they would like to accept the offer or decline it. If they accept the offer, then a check would be mailed to the owner of the valuables and that would be the end of the transaction. If they decline the offer, then the online pawn shop would return their valuables in a secured envelope.
Since the invention of the Internet, people who need to use pawn shops to either make money on valuables or purchase items at a discounted rate could now do this from the comfort of their own home as long as the items are smaller. For larger items such as electronics, guns, hunting gear, musical instruments, cameras or small kitchen appliances, a person would have to use the real-world brick-and-mortar pawn shop locations.
