Once upon a time, there was a little girl with a lisp. Her father, Ian Clarke, ran a big web 2.0 company that provided users with interesting news and streaming content in the form of videos and websites, that was relevant to each user. The proposed name of this new company was Truth – as in, truth in media, the truth will set you free, etc. Everyone agreed that this was a great name for a media company that provided such tailored content to its users, even allowing them to propose changes to stories. The employees at this company knew they would be the envy of all of the other media outlets and social networking websites.
But the little girl with the lisp (remember her?) just couldn’t say Truth. No matter how hard she tried, no matter how many hundreds of dollars her parents spent on speech therapy and pretty ponies and bribes, the little girl just couldn’t spit the word out. The best she could come up with was “Thoof”.
Not wanting to embarrass his little girl (who was the apple of his eye), the daddy (who ran this company) decided to change the name of his beloved company to Thoof. The employees, who were all fabulous people who also adored the little girl, decided it was a good thing to do. No one likes seeing little girls cry. The folks over at Thoof knew they’d have to work extra hard to be credible with such a goofy name, so they put a lot of work into their website, making sure that it had the most up to date, unique content on the net, and readers who would share what they found and comment on new stories. The good people at Thoof make sure that you won’t find a lot of duplicate articles when you visit their website, like at those OTHER user contributed content sites. The ThoofRank badge alerts you to the hottest content too.
Thoof – what started out as a mistake by a little girl is growing into an overnight sensation by internet geeks just like you and me! With a name so goofy, they’ve GOT to be good.

Drats! There goes my title as chief storyteller! Nicely, nicely done, Colleen!
You are so going to win with that story
Great post! I did a post of thoof the other day and have been using it since and the traffic on one of my sites has increased significantly from thoof! So – that’s pretty cool.
I like thoof. I haven’t tried submitting anything yet but I’ve enjoyed browsing the site quite a bit and I can see how it would increase traffic.
I knew a man with a similar problem and his kids very unsympathetically named the family dog Thunder. Kids are mean.
